Is soup the key to good hydration?
A new study has found that Americans don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. The CDC recommends that men should have a daily fluid intake of 125 ounces for men and 91 ounces for women. However, the research found that most women are barely meeting the recommended target for fluid intake, and not surprisingly, the same goes for men.
In order to stay healthy, children and adults should consume adequate amounts of fluids by drinking water, healthful beverages, and consuming nutrient-rich soups, and even stews like the Wisconsin Lakeshore Wild Rice Soup, or something hearty, like the Colorado Campfire Chicken Stew.
What happens when you don’t drink enough water
You may have a raging coffee habit, but drinking the largest serving of your favorite caffeinated beverage is not the same as drinking 8 glasses of plain water a day or consuming healthy broths and soups. Apart from being high in calories, coffee or other caffeinated drinks act as a diuretic, and you’ll need to drink more water to make up for the lost fluid.
Furthermore, when you’re not properly hydrated, you could become constipated, feel tired or lethargic, and experience lower cognitive abilities. Moreover, your immunity is compromised, and you often experience hunger pangs, which can lead to weight gain. Still not convinced? Here are all the reasons why you need to keep hydrated.
It improves your looks
Being dehydrated means having dull, dry and flaky skin that’s prone to wrinkles. But getting enough liquids can help to keep the skin moist and plump and help you look younger. Drinking the recommended amount of water and other healthful liquids may even help to fend off acne breakouts. For great skin, make sure to drink 8 glasses of water a day and eat soup made with ingredients rich in Vitamin C, such as Mississippi Delta Tomato Basil Soup.
It boosts metabolism
Drinking 8 to 12 glasses of water a day can help your body to burn more calories efficiently. For an added boost to your metabolism, eat soup that contains beans such as New York Corner Café Minestrone Soup. Beans are rich in fiber and protein, which are essential in improving your metabolism.
It prevents you from getting sick
A person who meets the recommended amount of fluid intake is less likely to get sick than someone who only drinks one to three glasses of water a day. Water gets rid of toxins and may prevent and treat chronic ailments or illnesses such as arthritis, insomnia, depression, and lymphoma. To increase your fluid intake while boosting immunity, try eating a soup that contains ginger such as the Pacific Rim Gingered Carrot Soup, as this aromatic root can decrease inflammation in the body.
For better health, drink more water and eat more soups. Keeping hydrated is the key to good health and a better quality of life.
