So you received an Instant Pot for Christmas! Congratulations! What to do next? Make soup, of course! The cooks in Frontier Soups’ kitchen have been stirring up recipe adaptations for six of our most popular bean soup mixes to speed up the cooking time. Amazingly, all our test results showed great performance with the pressure cooker and delivered delicious beans. We used the six-quart Instant Pot for our tests, but directions generally can be followed for any pressure cooker.
We recommend always soaking beans prior to cooking. They rehydrate and soften which avoids having their skin burst during cooking. If you have no time for soaking, in general, add about 10 minutes to pressure cooker setting times. Reminder, most pressure cookers should not be filled over 2/3 capacity and cook best halfway to two-thirds full.
